Kenneth I. Gelster, 79, of West Point died January 23, 2009 at University Hospital in Omaha. Cremation was chosen and no services are scheduled. Memorials may be made to West Point Rescue. Stokely Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of arrangements. Kenneth was born June 2, 1929 at West Point to Kenneth F. and Lottie Ayers Gelster. He attended West Point public school. Kenneth served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Gloria Redding in Iowa. The couple lived in West Point where Kenneth worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads, retiring as a supervisor in 1998 with over 50 years of service. Kenneth was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, VFW and American Legion. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing on the Elkhorn River and on Plum Creek, maintained a large garden and yard work. Survivors include his wife, Gloria, of West Point, son Scott (Monica) of Orange, California, daughters Deborah (Kirk) Kupecz of Ontario, California and Sue Gelster of Geneva, brother Elwood (Velma) Gelster of Denver, Colorado, sisters Lavern Nielsen and Doreen Johnson both of Omaha, and Carolyn Zill of Redmond, Washington, sister in law Lou Gelster of Napa Valley, California, grandchildren Christina, Gregory, and Lindsey Gelster, and Alena Zahirovic. He is preceded in death by his parents, Son Kenneth, and brother Duane.
