Katherine, Mrs. Edward Stalp, 95 of West Point, died Sunday July 12, 2009 at Wisner Care Center. Memorial services will be 11:00 am. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Retirement Community Chapel with Reverend Monsignor Melvin Wiese as celebrant. The family will receive friends one hour ahead of time at St. Joe’s. Mrs. Stalp has made an anatomical gift of her body toCreighton University. Katherine was born March 5, 1914 to Louis W. and Isabelle Sweeney Kowskie in Omaha. She graduated from St. John’s High School, attended Creighton and graduated from College of St. Mary in 1933. On April 10, 1937, she married Edward Stalp at St. John’s Church in Omaha and the couple farmed in Cuming County. Kay was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, charter member and past president of the St. Francis Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Red Cross volunteer, officer American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, St. Mary’s Guild, Christian Mothers, and Catholic Daughters. She received the Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor Award in 1983 and Pioneer Farm Award in 1982. She served as chair of the College of St. Mary’s Phonathon and received the Caring Circle and Distinguished Service awards from the College. Kay was a member of the President’s Club at both College of St. Mary and Mercy High School. She served on the St. Joseph’s retirement Board, was an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy and received the Dove and Caring Circle award at Methodist Hospital. Kay was a world traveler. Survivors include daughter Martha Stalp Martin of Modesto, California, and grandchildren Kara, Kristopher and Rebecca. She is preceded in death by her husband Edward, her parents, and brother Louis.
