Julia Brown, 101, of West Point died Friday, June 5, 2009 at Elk Horn Villa in Scribner. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Reverend Frank Lordemann as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Guild Rosary1:30 pm. Monday and public Wake Services7:00 pm. Monday both at Stokely Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Monday at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to West Point Rescue or St. Mary’s Catholic Church. On line condolences may be left at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Julia was born April 15, 1908 at St. Edward to Herman and Mary Miller Dinslage, grew up, and attended country school there. Julia married Cecil Brown and the couple farmed in the Albion area. During the depression years they did migrant farm work, settling in West Point in 1945. It was there, that Julia and Cecil owned and operated Brown’s Tavern, a liquor store and a Laundromat. They continued to be active in farming. Julia lived independently her entire life. Julia was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Guild; she served on the West Point Rescue Squad for many years, resigning at age 75. She was active with and a benefactor for the Sunshine Senior Center. Survivors include sisters Esther Kelly of Scribner, and Florence Luginbill of Omaha, many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil in 1965 and an infant son, Patrick Thomas Brown in 1939, sisters Marie Stromberg and Theresa Raymond, and brother George Dinslage.
