Joseph Schlickbernd, 94, of West Point, died Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Parkview Home in Dodge. Funeral Mass will be Monday, October 31 at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with lunch following at the Nielsen Center. Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00pm to 7:00pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00pm all at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Cuming County Fair Foundation or GACC Endowment. Joseph Schlickbernd was born on October 17, 1922 to Henry and Catherine (Dinslage) Schlickbernd in West Point. Joe was raised on a farm east of Beemer and attended country school. On June 4, 1947, Joe married Marie Gentrup at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer. The couple farmed southeast of West Point before moving to town in 1980. Joe was a 4-H leader and especially loved working in the cattle division and showing cattle. A couple of his passions were rebuilding cars and playing various card games including Sheephead. Most of all, Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Survivors include daughters, Lois (Mike) McCarty of Spring, TX, Janet (Bob) Hassler of The Woodlands, TX, and LuAnn (Dave) Franzluebbers of Dodge; sons, Eugene (Pam) and Patrick (Jean) both of West Point and Ronald (Linda Cech) of Dodge; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy (Cletus) Wiesen of Hendricks, MN, and Ann Telecky of Howells; brother, Henry of Beemer; and special friend, Erma Dinslage. Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Marie, in 2011; parents; and sisters, Catherine Ruskamp and Marie Steffensmeier.
