John H. Rasmus, 90, of West Point, died Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at Oakland Heights Nursing Home on Oakland. Services will be 10:30 am. Saturday at Salem Covenant Church, rural Oakland, with Reverend Steve Hoden officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Friday with family receiving friends 5:00 pm. until 7:00 pm. at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Memorials may be made to the West Point Fire and Rescue or to Oakland Heights Nursing Home. John was born September 20, 1916 on the farm east of West Point in Cuming County to Henry and Isabella Fenske Rasmus. He attended district #74 rural school. On November 23, 1952, he married Vernelle Erickson at Westside Methodist Church, rural Oakland. The couple farmed east of West Point. John retired in 2000. John had been a member of Westside Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter Kristen (Ken) Kusik of Lincoln, son John, Jr. (Sandy) of West Point, sister Lillie Fisher of West Point and granddaughter Jennifer Rasmus and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife in October 1999.
