Johanna Kloke, 102, of Fremont, died Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Nye Pointe Health and Rehabilitation in Fremont. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am on Wednesday, January 10 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church near West Point with Reverend Steve Emanuel as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery with lunch following at the Nielsen Center. Visitation will be Tuesday from 12:00pm to 7:00pm with a vigil service at 7:00pm at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Cemetery Endowment. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Johanna Gertrude Kloke was born April 21, 1915 on the family farm west of West Point at St. Charles to John and Anna (Goeken) Kloke. Johanna attended District 2 and St. Anthony Catholic School through eighth grade. She lived a simple but dedicated life. After the death of her mother in 1936, she remained on the farm to assume housekeeping duties of the family. Johanna lived in her family home for most of her life before moving to St. Joseph’s Retirement Community. As a lifelong member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, where she was baptized and confirmed, Johanna served as Sacristan for 42 years. She was also a member of the guild. Johanna was an avid reader, and adept at various crafts. Her compassion for the sick and elderly led her to spend a great deal of time visiting area nursing homes and hospitals while her health allowed. Occasionally, when asked to share her favorite philosophy of life, she would answer,’Live by the golden rule. Pray and maintain your trust in God. If at times you feel like you are at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.’Survivors include her sister-in-law, LaVerna Kloke of Hooper; and nieces and nephews. Johanna was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Gertrude Uhing and Minnie Rizzo; and brothers Henry, Anton, Lawrence, Joe, Frank, Ignatius, Herman, Rudy, and Hugo Kloke.
