JoAnn Peterson, 71, of West Point, died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Saturday, April 28, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Noon to 8 pm Friday with Guild, Catholic Daughters rosary at 1:30 pm and Public Wake at 7 pm Friday at Stokely Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. JoAnn Justina Peterson was born September 11, 1940 South of Snyder in Dodge County to Joseph and Elizabeth (Stieren) Kaup. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Guardian Angels High School in West Point in 1958. After graduation, she provided home health care . On April 25, 1961, JoAnn married Larry Peterson and the couple farmed northeast of West Point where they raised their family. JoAnn was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Guild, Catholic Daughters and was a CCD teacher. She also helped with Junior Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed many crafts, sewing, canning and gardening. Survivors include husband, Larry of West Point; daughters Laurena Marr of West Point, Lois (Mark) Niewohner of Lyons, Lisa Christiansen of Sioux City, IA, Joanne (Brad) Tuch of Lincoln, and Kae (Kent) Pytlik of Elkhorn; sons Lawrence (Grace) of West Point, Steven (Deanna) of Bancroft, Joseph of Ceresco, Kermit of West Point and James of West Point; grandchildren Loren, Vanessa and Abigail Peterson, Sheridan and Elliot Marr, Justine, Jesse and Jasmine Smidt, Tiffany, Kimberly and Alex Peterson, Gary and Nate Christiansen, Caitleyn Peterson and Shelby Pytlik; great-grandchildren Mackinnzie Smidt; brothers Joseph (Connie) Kaup Jr. of Snyder, Ervin Kaup; sisters Monica (Dennis) Tomka of Howells and Anna (Leo) Goeken of Stanton; brother in law Gail (Wanda) Peterson of Crofton. She is preceded in death by daughter Jeanne Peterson in 1973, brother Donald Kaup in 1991 and granddaughter Chelsie Smidt in 1987.
