Joan J. Schlueter, 80, of Beemer, died Wednesday, August 08, 2012 at Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point with Reverend Christian Meier officiating. Burial will follow at Beemer Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 am to 8 pm Friday with family receiving friends from 6 pm to 8 pm at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Colonial Haven or Grace Lutheran Church. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Joan Joyce Schlueter was born October 20, 1931 in rural Lyons to John and Minnie (Abendroth) Raabe. She attended District 58 country school. She worked as a hired girl, at Campbell’s Soup and Western Electric. On November 4, 1962, Joan married Eldon Schlueter at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. The couple farmed southeast of Wisner where Joan raised pickles for Gedney Pickle Company. Joan was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing guitar, accordion and singing. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook who baked many birthday cakes and chocolate chip cookies for her family. Joan is survived by brothers Dean (Barb) Raabe of Fremont, NE and John (Judy) Raabe of West Point, NE; sister Jean Dahlgren of Oakland; sister in law Deloris Raabe of Lyons and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Eldon, in 2003, infant twin sister, Joyce, brothers Francis, brother Donald and twin sister Darlene Barrs, brother Robert, and an infant brother.
