Jerry Lawrence Jaspersen was born to Avery and Dorothy (Voss) Jaspersen on September 18, 1948, at Oakland Memorial Hospital in Oakland, NE. He passed away suddenly at home on November 19, 2024.

Jerry lived all 76 years of his life on the family farm halfway between West Point and Oakland. He walked a half mile to a one room schoolhouse through eighth grade and graduated from Oakland High School in 1966. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, Chemistry, and Math at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and from there spent a summer with the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was later honorably discharged reaching the rank of First Lieutenant.

Jerry married Rosemary (Rose Stanek) of Lyons, NE in 1970 at St. Joseph’s Church in Lyons, NE.  He began farming in 1971 and finished his final harvest in October of 2024. He was pleased to have been done so early this year and his son was pleased to know that all the grain was in town. As a farmer, Jerry served on the national board for American Milk Producers Inc. (AMPI) until he sold his cows in the dairy buyout in 1985. Following his milking days, he fed cattle and hogs, and raised a cow calf herd. He was an early adopter of no-till farming. Jerry also did part-time work on UNL Extension programs including farm safety.

When Jerry wasn’t farming he was neck deep in remodeling projects, his carpentry skills were featured in every room of their home. He was a man of faith, member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, member of Knights of Columbus third degree. Jerry was a member of the Central Catholic booster club serving a term as President and was instrumental in finishing the basement of the Activity Center. Jerry also served on the school board for Guardian Angels.

He thoroughly enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids in their various activities – volleyball, tennis, football, basketball, swimming, golf, softball, baseball, 4-H and more. Jerry served as fair superintendent for 4-H Engineering and Woodworking departments and was a member of Oakland Golf Club. When he wasn’t sitting on a stadium seat, swinging a golf club, or attending a broadway theatre performance, he was travelling with Rose across the United States and 33 countries abroad.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Rosemary; daughter, Erin (Aaron) Mason of Hudson, WI; son, Jarrod (Amy) of Mason City, IA; grandchildren, Jarrett, McKenna, Audrey, Jillian, Rozlyn, and Koen; sisters, Jo Ann (Armand) Matthews, Judy Robertson, and Jean (Rudi) Naegele; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jerry is preceded in death by, his parents; Charles and Rosellen Stanek; sister-in-law Rita Stanek; brother-in-laws, Don Robertson and Arlis Kinning Jr.; nephew, Todd Matthews.
