Jerome W. “Bud” Schlecht, 81, of West Point, died October 3, 2007 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Memorial Mass will be 9:00 am. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Public wake with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:30 pm. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Church. Memorial visitation will be 9:00 am. until 5:00 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com.Bud was born February 2, 1926 in West Point to Alfred and Mary Hunke Schlecht. He attended Guardian Angels Catholic School. In the early years, Bud farmed with his father. On August 18, 1948, Bud married Agnes “Mutz” Lueckenhoff at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He worked various jobs until purchasing the Golden Rod Cafe in 1964, changing the name to Bud’s Cafe. Bud was an avid fisherman. He loved fishing on the Elkhorn River and riding his airboat. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Agnes “Mutz” of West Point, daughters; Deb (Duane) Wiechman and Vickie (Dave) Welding both of West Point, sons; Dale (Kathy), Gary (Susan), Gregg (Dee) all of West Point, Mark (Kris) of Sparks, NV, and Jeff of Bellevue, sister Dorothy Ortmeier and sister-in-law Valeria Schlechtboth of West Point, grandchildren; Jason (fiancee; Michelle) Schlecht, Kari (Matt) Metschke, Kasey (Ryan) Heiser, Brandie Schlecht, Alyssa and Dillon Schlecht, Matt, Dustin, Danny and Deanna Wiechman , Chad (Stefanie) Breitkruetz and Nicole Breitkruetz, great grandchildren Allison, Aiden, and Abby Metschke, Austin Heiser, and Tristen Schlect. He is preceded in death by his parents, sons Brian in 1970, Jan in 2002 and a brother Dennis Schlecht.
