Jean A. Humlicek Meier, 89, of Beemer, died Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Franciscan Healthcare in West Point. Memorial Mass will be 10:30am on Wednesday, January 15 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer with Reverend Matthias Sule as celebrant. The funeral will be live streamed on the Stokely Funeral Home Facebook page at facebook.com/stokelyfuneralhome. Visitation will be before Mass from 9:ooam to 10:00am with a Rosary at 10:00am. Lunch will be at the church hall following the funeral with burial at a later date. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Catholic Church or West Point Community Theatre. Jean Ann Hagedorn was born on July 22, 1935, to Bill and Clara (Nebuda) Hagedorn. She grew up in West Point attending West Point Public School where she graduated in 1953. She then pursued higher education at Colorado Woman’s College, Texas Woman’s University, Arizona State University, and Nova University. Jean earned multiple degrees, specializing in speech and language therapy.
Jean began her career establishing speech therapy programs in Pinal County, Arizona, and later worked as a speech therapist for Phoenix Elementary School District #1. From 1975 to 1985, she also served as a consultant for the Arizona Department of Education.
On July 12, 1958, Jean married Duane Humlicek, her childhood friend and high school sweetheart, in Phoenix, AZ. The couple shared a love of travel, history, and genealogy, with a special interest in Native American cultures and Czech heritage. Duane and Jean moved to Beemer in the early 2000’s. Duane passed away in 2012. Jean married Wayne Meier on December 5, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer. Jean moved to Colonial Haven in March 2024.
Jean was an active volunteer throughout her life, contributing her time to the Heard Museum in Phoenix, West Point Community Theater, Cuming County Fair, and Cuming County Historical Society. She was deeply proud of her Czech heritage and served on the Czech Collectors Association board.
Jean was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer. She will be remembered for her vibrant personality, dedication to education, and service to her community.
Jean is survived by her brother, Tom Hagedorn of Prescott, AZ and several cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Duane Humlicek in 2012 and Wayne Meier in 2017; and sister-in-law, Juanita Hagedorn.
