Janice M. Wortman, 56, of West Point died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha. Funeral Mass will be 1:00 pm. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Frank Lordemann as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Wake services 7:00 pm. Wednesday and Guild Rosary 1:30 pm. Wednesday both at Stokely Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Wednesday at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the local Relay for Life Janice Marie Goeken was born December 21, 1953 in Omaha to Thomas and Lillian Venteicher Goeken. She moved to West Point as a young child, attended Guardian Angels school and graduated from West Point Central Catholic with the class of 1972. While married to Gale Slagle, her children Jason and Amywere born and while married to Kenneth Wortman, children Jennifer and Angela were born. Through her lifetime, Jan enjoyed waitressing in several local establishments until her 2007 cancer diagnosis forced her to quit working. Jan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and woodworking. She loved her family, and spending time with them. Survivors include children; Jason (fiancee; Sarah Eckhardt) Slagle of Omaha, Amy (Craig) Johnson of Fremont, Jennifer (Brian) Renner and Angela (Travis) Wolf both of West Point, mother Lillian Wittler of West Point, grandchildren Cole and Kayla Johnson, Gage and Grant Slagle and Clyde Renner, sisters Sharon Goeken of West Point, Carol (Roger) Oberle of Elkhorn and Nadine (Michael) Hoeppner of Bellevue, and brother Dennis (Sue) Goeken of West Point. She is preceded in death by her father and a nephewShane Goeken.
