Hilbert John Hunke, 72, of rural West Point, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at his farm home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Monterey, with Reverend Norman Hunke as celebrant. Body donation will follow with burial at St. Boniface Cemetery at a later date. Public Wake with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:00 pm. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 4:00 Thursday at the Funeral Home and continue at St. Mary’s church. Memorials may be made to Christian Foundation for children and the aged, St. Francis Hospice or St. Boniface Cemetery. The casket will not be opened at St. Boniface the morning of the funeral. Lunch will be at the Vets club in west Point following. Online condolences may be left at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Stokely Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements. Hilbert was born May 30, 1935 on the farm east of Monterey to Bernard and Cecelia Kreikemeier Hunke. He attended St. Boniface Catholic School and graduated from Guardian Angels Catholic School with the class of 1954. Hilbert served in the US Army from November of 1956 until November of 1958, stationed in Germany. On November 26, 1960, he married Joan Logan in Pueblo, Colorado. The couple farmed the home place near Monterey and Hilbert worked at IBP, later Tyson, for 35 years retiring in 2003. Hilbert was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, where he served as a trustee and on the church council, and Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Joan, of West Point, daughters; maribeth Ulrich of Norco, California and her sons; Tyler and Adam, Ann Marie (Craig) Recker of Honolulu, Hawaii, and their son; Steven, son Bernard (Lisa) and their daughters; Kristina, Katie, Sara, and Jessica, sisters; Coletta (Val) Eikmeier of Dodge, Rosemarie (Leslie) Mlnarik of Fremont, and Theresa (Jerry) Knobbe of West Point. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Gregg in 1989, infant daughter, Mary Margaret, brothers Leo and Vincent Hunke, and sister Elizabeth Hunke.
