Henrietta Steffensmeier, 97, of West Point, NE, died April 24, 2016, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am. Thursday, April 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with burial at St. Aloysius Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 27th, from 9:00 am. until 4:00 pm. at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point with Guild and Christian Mother’s Rosary at 1:30 pm. Visitation continues at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point from 6:00 until 7:00 pm. with Wake service at 7:00 pm. at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Sunshine Center in West Point. Stokely Funeral Home in West Point in charge of arrangements. Henrietta Elizabeth Ernesti was born July 15, 1918 in Cuming County to Casper and Mary (Doerneman) Ernesti. Henrietta grew up on the farm, she attended school at St. Aloysius School through the 8th grade. On April 9, 1940, Henrietta married Aloysius Steffensmeier at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Aloys. The coupled farmed for 50 years southwest of Aloys on the Ernesti home place, they retired and moved to West Point in 1991. Henrietta was an active farm wife, who enjoyed quilting, playing cards, putting together puzzles, playing Bingo and she her loved her family. Henrietta was a member of St. Aloysius Church and St. Mary’s Church, Guild and Christian Mothers. She was a 4-H leader and active at the Sunshine Senior Center. Henrietta is survived by her sons Duane of Omaha, Melvin (Earlene) of Canyon, TX, Leroy (Jean) of Pace FL and Francis’Frank’ (fiancé Sharlene Sjogren) of Columbus; daughters Dolores (Gilbert) Faltin of Fremont, Rita Steffensmeier of West Point, Diane (Greg) Wolfe of Indianola, Kathleen (David) Feyerherm of West Point, Bonnie (Scott) Warner of Fremont and Norma (Tim) Blume of Indianola; 26 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Sisters-in-law Annie Steffensmeier of Howells, Theresa Dinslage of Dodge, Agnes (Bill) Hunke of West Point, brother-in-law Monsignor Ralph Steffensmeier of Cedar Rapids. Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Aloysius on July 13, 1998, daughter-in-law Shirlee Steffensmeier, and three siblings in infancy Casper, Joseph and Cecilia, sisters Alvina (Bohumil) Sindelar and Hildegaard (Leo) Hunke.
