Helen E. Uher, 98, of Dodge, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Parkview Nursing Home in Dodge. Funeral Mass 10:00 am. Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge with Reverend Patrick McLaughlin as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Christian Mothers rosary will be 3:00 pm. Friday and Wake will be 7:30 pm. Friday Both at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Visitation will be 3:00 pm. until 8:00 pm. Friday at St. Wenceslaus. Memorials may be made to the church. Helen was born February 25, 1913 north of Howells, in Cuming County to Gustav and Emma (Petricek) Bazata. She attended District 75 School and Howells High School. Helen married August J. Uher on September 5, 1933 at St. John’s Nepocumene Catholic Church in Howells. The couple farmed south of Dodge. August passed away April 4, 1968 and Helen moved into Dodge in 1969. Helen cooked for many weddings, anniversaries and banquets. She worked at Parkview Nursing Home in dietary for 29 years, then in the Activities Area for 4 years, and continued as a volunteer there for several years. Helen was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Christian Mother’s, Altar Society, Prayer Line and American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years. She was an excellent cook and baker, and was especially known for her kolaches, pies and dill pickles. She loved to tend to her many flowers and can the vegetables from her garden. Helen enjoyed visiting with her family and an occasional visit to the casinos. She also brought it up that she was driving a car at the age of 9. Survivors include children Marilyn (Jerome) Ortmeier, David (Donna) Uher all of Dodge, Anita (Wes) Evers of Omaha, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, August, daughter Helen Horn, parents Gustav and Emma Bazata, brothers Edward, Lumir, Gustav Jr., Raymond R., and Ernest in infancy.
