Helen Sophie (Hasebroock) Rasmus, 90, of Scribner, formerly of West Point, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Good Samaritan Center in Scribner. Helen was born November 28, 1921 to William and Anna (Pinkemeyer) Hasebroock on their farm near Uehling, Nebraska, the youngest of three children. She was confirmed and was a member of St. John’s Church on the county line near Scribner. She graduated from Uehling High School in 1939, and received a secretary degree from Midland College in Fremont. She worked at the Rationing Board in Scribner until her marriage to Edward Rasmus in June of 1943. They had one daughter, Jo Ann, now Mrs. Benjamin Alan Chesser of Lincoln, Nebraska. Helen was the bookkeeper at Rasmus Oil Company in West Point for 34 years, until the death of her husband, Ed, in 1978. She then worked for 22 years at the West Point Hospital as a secretary, retiring in 2001. She moved to Good Samaritian Center in Scribner in 2003. Helen was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. She helped establish the West Point Rescue Unit in 1970, is a Charter Member, and was an E. M. T., volunteering for 6 years. She is survived by her daughter, Jo and son-in-law Alan Chesser of Lincoln, Nebraska; four nieces and four nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed in 1978; brother Arwin and sister Aletna. Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point, with Reverend Chris Meier officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be noon to 6:00 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mt. Hope Cemetery or Grace Lutheran Church. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
