Helen June Boone, 88, of West Point, died Monday, April 12, 2010, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Funeral services will be 10:30 am. Thursday at Trinity Church in West Point with Reverend Nora Mendyk officiating. Graveside services will be 1:30 pm. Thursday at Greenwood Cemetery at Creighton. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Wednesday with family receiving friends 6:00 pm. until 8:00 pm. at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point which is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be may made to Trinity Church. On-line condolences may be left at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Helen June was born June 25, 1921 at Valley, NE to Danish immigrants, Chris and Hulda Gunderson Larsen. She was raised on the farm and went to country school. She attended Fremont High School and graduated from Valley High School in 1937. Following graduation, Helen June continued to live and work on the family farm. In 1941, at the urging of her brother, she moved to Denver, CO. There she worked at an Ammunition plant during WWII. She also worked at Remington Arms and Kaiser Industries during the war years. On May 10, 1942, following 6 weeks of courtship, she married Aubrey Jay Boone in Denver. The couple lived in Texas before moving to Valley in 1947 where Helen June began her family and worked candling eggs. In 1961 the family settled in Creighton where she worked with her husband as bookkeeper at Boone Tire Shop. Following Aubrey’s death in 1981, June retired. In 2007 she moved to West Point to be nearer her daughters. She enjoyed gardening and her pets. Helen June joined Trinity Church January 25, 2009. Survivors include daughters Sherry (Ronald) Schab of Bellevue and Tracey (Larry) Merchen of West Point, grandchildren Jon, Tim, and Emily Merchen, Troy and Todd Quello and Jeff Schab, great grandchildren Gage Druen, Ashtyon Holman, Justin and Kristian Quello. She is preceded in death by her husband Aubrey, brother Dewey Larsen and her parents.
