Harold Wimmer, 87, of West Point died Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at his home. Memorial Services will be 10:30 am. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point with Reverend Christian Meier officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery with lunch following at the Nielsen Community Center. Memorial Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Friday with family present 5:00 pm. until 7:00 pm. at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church. Those wishing to leave on-line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Harold was born June 13, 1922 at Appleton, Wisconsin to George and Elizabeth Thrun Wimmer. Harold grew up in Milwaukee, moved with his family to Snyder, Nebraska in 1934 where he began to learn the family trade. Harold attended college at University of Nebraska, Lincoln, Colorado College, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. Harold served as an Ensign with the US Navy from July 1, 1943 until March 12, 1946. On January 18, 1944, Harold married Dolores Marquardt in Chicago, Illinois. The couple eventually settled in West Point. Harold was General Manager of Wimmer’s Meat Products, Inc., from 1947-1979, was Board Chairman at Wimmer’s until 2007 and was an active board member until his death. Harold was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he served on the Church Council. Harold also served on the West Point Industrial Development Corp, First National Bank Board, St. Francis Memorial Hospital Foundation Board, West Point City Council, Hospital Governing Board, Grain States Soya Board, First Commerce Bankshares of Lincoln Board, and Platte Valley Foods Board. Harold enjoyed playing bridge, playing golf, fishing and woodworking but would trade all that to go dancing with Dolores. He received the West Point Community Service Award and the Corporate Leadership award. He was a member of the club formerly known as the Lion’s Club. Survivors include his wife Dolores of West Point, sons David (Connie) Wimmer of West Point, Paul (Kim) Wimmer of Gretna, daughters Ruth Wimmer (Allan Ferguson) of Denver, Colorado, Mary Wimmer (Paul Mitchell) of Denver, Colorado , grandchildrenRebecca Wimmer , Aaron (Lisa) Wimmer, Alison Wimmer Schmeider(Jens Schmeider), Holly Wimmer-Hunke(Jeremy Hunke), Katharine Ferguson, Stephanie, Tina andConstantine Mitchell, Alex (Anna) wimmer, Jasmine and Houston Wimmer, great grandchildren Hayden and Mia Hunke, Hannah Schmeider, and Stephen Ochoa Wimmer, daughter in law Ela Wimmer of Belmont, California and former daughter in law Joyce Wimmer of West Point. He is preceded in death by his son Steve in 2002, brothers George, Fritz, sister Gretchen Sowerby.
