Gregory William Martens, 55, of West Point, died Monday, September 15, 2008, at West Point Living Center. Services will be 10:30 am. Wednesday at Stokely Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Richard Bringewatt officiating. Burial will be at St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Pender. Memorials may be made to the local Relay for Life. Visitation will be noon until 8:00 pm. Tuesday at Stokely Funeral Home with family present 5:00 pm. until 7:00 pm. Greg was born February 2, 1953 at Pender to Allen and Theresa Reindel Martens. He grew up in Oakland attending schools there and at North East Community College in Norfolk. He worked in the family grocery store in Oakland, Dorman’s Manufacturing in West Point, D. V. Industries in Pender and Smeal’s in Snyder. On December 30, 1994 he married Jeanette Johnson Gustafson. Greg enjoyed spending time with his friends, especially Jim Lueckenhoff. Greg was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer in early 2007. Survivors include his brother, Tim (Donna) Martens of West Point, step children; Bobby, Sandy and Andrew Gustafson and Mary Tenopir, nieces and nephews; Jeff Wintor, Theresa Schuetze, Paul, Jonathan and Anthony Mahnke and Daniel Martens. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jeanette, in July of 2002.
