Gertrude Anna Pagels, 93, of Grand Island, formerly of West Point and rural Bancroft, died November 2, 2007 in Grand Island. Services will be 10:30 am. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Bancroft, with Reverend Jeff Warner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church. Gertrude was born May 14, 1914 at Beemer to Theodore and Lola Borgelt Ludwig. She grew up on the family farm and was a Beemer High School graduate. In the early years, she worked as a department store clerk in Omaha. On October 4, 1941, she married Raymond Pagels. The couple farmed near Bancroft. Gertrude was active in the Zion Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday school, and singing in the choir. In September of 1982, Gertrude retired to West Point, moving into St. Joseph’s retirement Home in 1992 and finally to Grand Island in 1996. Survivors include her daughter Darla (Larry) Wilton of Grand Island, grandchildren Jonathan, Laura and Joshua Wilton, sister in law Hermine Ludwig of West Point, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in by her husband, Raymond, in June of 1982, son LaMont in June of 1993, brothers Harry, Artwin and Martin Ludwig.
