GenevieveA. Gerken, 92, of West Point, diedSeptember 1, 2012, at St. Francis Memorial Hpspital. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 Tuesday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at St. Charles, NE with Rev. Gerald Gonderinger as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Public wake service will be 7:00 pm. Monday at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point which is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be noon until 8:00 pm. Monday. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Genevieve “Genie” Gerken was born March 15, 1920 in St. Charles Township near St. Anthony’s Catholic Church to Henry and Katherine (Maly) Goeken. She attended school at Guardian Angels in West Point and worked on the County Farm north of town. On October 9, 1940, Genie married Leo Gerken at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The couple farmed near St. Charles where Genie was an active farm wife. She worked at St. Francis Memorial Hospital for 30 years and was a charter member of the West Point Rescue in 1971. She was active in church as an EMHC and was also a CCD teacher. Genie was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Guild. She loved flowers, especially roses and peonies, and also enjoyed crocheting. She is survived by her children Dorothy (Joe) Citta of Reno, NV, Mary Jean (Tom) Rinker of Boylston, MA, Mildren (Leo) Mausbach of Mesa, AZ, Robert of Wakefield, Eileen Wilson of Fremont, Michael of West Point, Steven (Marlene) of Beemer and Diane (Dudley) Persson of Oakland; brother Jerome (Gladys) Goeken of Omaha; sister Magdalene Seeman of Lincoln; sisters in law Clara Wiesen and Marie Gerken of West Point and Ann Ernesti of Norfolk;27 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leo in 2010; sons Richard in 1978 and Donald in 1985; great-grand children Madison and Hailey; brothers Wenzel, Andrew, Tom and Ben Goeken; sisters Sr. Frances Goeken, Sr. Adele Goeken and Caroline Heywood.
