Gary L. Means, 64, of Omaha, died Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at his home. Memorial Mass will be 11:00 Monday, January 3, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Elkhorn, with Reverend Gary Ostrander as celebrant. Vigil services will be 5:30 pm. Sunday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with family visitation starting at 4:00. In lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society Relay for Life, or the American Red Cross. Stokely Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of arrangements. Gary was born January 3, 1946, in Omaha, to Walter and Marian Simonson Means. In 1953, he moved with his family to West Point where Gary attended West Point Public Schools graduating with the class of 1964. He then attended Wayne State College and completed a Computer Training Course in Omaha. On August 2, 1969, Gary married Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Schmitt at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. The couple lived in Omaha where Gary was employed with 1st National Bank. Gary sold industrial equipment and owned a convenience store. He then worked as a marketing representative for Gatorade retiring in March of 2010. Gary was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Elkhorn. He was an avid sports fan, and coached Little League. He was proud of being a Red Cross regular blood donor. Survivors include his wife Mary Kathleen “Kathy” (Schmitt) Means, daughter Lori, son Matthew Means(Kim Fonda) all of Omaha, mother Marian Means of Scribner, sister Judy (Paul) McDaniel Corvallis, OR, grandchildren Caitlin, Tyler and Jacob. He is preceded in death by father Walter.
