Fred J. “Fritz” Wortman, age 87, of West Point, died Friday, April 29, 2011, at the West Point Living Center in West Point. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am. Tuesday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with the Rev. Frank Lordemann as Celebrant. Burial with military honors will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in West Point. Wake services will be 7 pm. Monday at Stokely Funeral Home Chapel in West Point. Visitation will be noon to 8 pm. on Monday. Memorials may be made to St. Michael’s Cemetery or Guardian Angels or Central Catholic endowments. Fritz was born November 16, 1923, in West Point, NE to Christopher and Gertrude Linneman Wortman. He graduated from Guardian Angels in 1941. He served three years in the U. S. Army and was stationed overseas during WWII. On April 14, 1948, Fritz married Deloris Surman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The couple lived and raised their family in West Point. Deloris died January 1, 1980. On June 28, 1985, Fritz married Darlene Bliemeister Surman at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Fritz worked as a parts manager for West Point Implement for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He also sold and installed cemetery monuments for several years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and a 50-year member of the American Legion and VFW and was past commander. He had served on the board of directors for the Vet’s Club. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his wife, Darlene, of West Point, daughters, Margie (Vince) Marr of Dodge, and Ginger (Myren) Lambrecht of Omaha, sons, Russ (Pam) Wortman and Ken Wortman, all of West Point, six grandchildren, Tammy Dvorak, Brent Marr, Sheri Burkholder, Tanya Wortman, Jennifer Renner, and Angela Wolf, five great-grandchildren, Finnian Wortman, Clyde Renner, Braden, Josie and Emmie Dvorak. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Deloris, a brother, Ray Wortman, and a sister, Delores McGill.
