Fred Woerner, 75, of West Point, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at West Point Living Center after a brief battle with cancer. Memorial Services will be 10:30 am. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Reverend Richard Bringewatt officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Friday with family present 5:00 until 7:00 at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Fred William Woerner, Jr., was born January 28, 1935 to Fred and Else Larsson Woerner, Sr. Fred attended West Point Public Schools and was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church. On May 25, 1957, he married Janice Stuckenschmidt at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Pender. In June of 1957, Fred joined the Army and was honorably discharged. The couple made their home in West Point, where Fred worked for Herman Emanuel, Bill Rasmus, Glen Bowman and Nebraska State Highway Department. He owned and operated Woerner Garbage Service for nearly 40 years. Fred was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and formerly the Isaac Walton League. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and all varieties of sports. Survivors include his wife Janice of West Point, sons Mike (Lori) and Bob Woerner both of West Point, daughters Cindy (Paul) Norton of Craig and Pam (Brian) Hunsicker of Aurora, Colorado, grandchildren Angela Bryan, Jamie, Alyssa and Courtney Norton, Tina Lang, Kerie Ehlers, Brady Woerner, Samantha Pauni, Justin, Steven, Trevor, and Shelby Hunsicker, great grandchildren Alexa, Brynn, Amon, Avery and Blayr, sister Mary Ellen Danielson of West Point and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Fred Alvin, sisters Alice Vakiner, Else “Suzie” Tyrell, Vivian Moeller and brother Leonard Woerner.
