Fred F. Steuter, 90, of West Point died December 24, 2006 at the West Point Living Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Wake services with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:00 pm. Wednesday at Stokely Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with military honors graveside. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s, Guardian Angels or Central Catholic Endowments. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Fred was born May 29, 1916 on the family farm east of West Point to Henry and Catherine Lummel Steuter. He attended Guardian Angels Catholic School. Fred served in the U. S. Army. On August 13, 1947, he married Rita Ulrich at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Monterey. Fred worked as an interior painter, first for Frank Sudholt for 21 years, then for himself, retiring in the early 1990’s. Fred was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Fred was always willing to help others and received the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award in 1996. Survivors include his wife, Rita, of West Point, daughters Elaine Burke of Omaha, Diane Carroll of Kansas City, KS and Marlene (Gary) David of Galena, IL, sons Donald of Phoenix, AZ, Gary (Krista) of Avalon, CA, and Kenneth of Peoria, IL, a brother Paul (Bertha) of West Point, 5 grandchildren Tim Burke, Sarah (Dana) Cwerwinski, Kimberly and Caitlin Steuter and Tyler David. He is preceded in death by his parents, son in law Kevin Burke and a sister Agnella Dinslage.
