Evangeline M. Schlecht, 70, of Columbus, died Monday, August 29, 2005 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Reverend Gerry Gonderinger as celebrant. Public wake services will be 7:30 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Central Catholic School Endowment or St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:30 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point which is in charge of arrangements. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Evangeline was born April 11, 1935 at West Point to Joseph H. and Beatrice Ann Vogeltanz Schlecht. She attended Guardian Angels Catholic School, graduating in 1953. In 1962 she graduated from the College of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She worked as a registered radiology technologist for Columbus Community Hospital in Columbus for 33 years, becoming the department director in 1972 and retiring in 1997 Evangeline was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. She enjoyed traveling both domestic and abroad. She was most interested in genealogy and loved spending time with her family, especially her great nieces and nephews. Survivors include her sister Beatrice Doernemann of West Point, nieces Carol (Wayne) Bourek and Jean (Kevin) Stieren both of West Point, great nieces and nephews Ryan, Holly, and Jared Bourek, Andrea and Jennifer Stieren. She is preceded in death by her parents, aunts and uncles.
