Elizabeth W. Scharfen, 101, of West Point, died July 10, 2006 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Anthony’s Cemetery at St. Charles. Guild and Christian Mothers Rosary will be 1:30 pm. Thursday and Public Wake Services will be 7:00 pm. Thursday both at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Thursday at Stokely Funeral Home. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Elizabeth was born May 6, 1905 on the family farm at St. Charles to William and Catherine Wisnieski Grovijohn. She attended St. Anthony’s School. On April 24, 1929, she married Anton “Tony” Scharfen. The couple farmed west of West Point. Elizabeth retired into West Point in 1989. Elizabeth was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Guild and Christian Mothers. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, especially Lilacs. She passed her time with embroidery, feeding and watching birds. Survivors include her daughter, Mildred (Lawrence) Gentrup of West Point, grandchildren Dan Gentrup, Donna Kreikemeier, Diane (Jon) Olson, Carolin (Gary) Renter and Terry (Tina) Gentrup, great grandchildren Jessica (Ben) Schroeder, Jenna and Jonathon Olson, Steven and Jacob Renter, Tate and Tara Gentrup. She is preceded in death by her husband, Tony, in 1966, son Clarence in 1989, grandsons Warren and Tim Gentrup, sister Justina Stieren, and brothers Fred and Leo Grovijohn.
