Edwin Fred Groth, 70, of Bancroft, died May 18, 2005 at his home after a lengthy illness. Edwin was born at the family farm northeast of West Point, in Cuming County, on September 25, 1934, to Fred and Anna Eschenburg Groth. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Bancroft. Edwin attended school at District 24 and Zion Lutheran. Edwin served in the Army October 14, 1957 to October 13, 1959, including a tour of duty in Korea. Edwin married Elinor Keefer on June 20, 1964 at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Papillion, NE. Edwin was a farmer all of his life. He especially enjoyed his livestock. Edwin was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at West Point. Edwin was a leader of the Plum Creek Livestock 4-H club and served on the Cuming County Extension Board. He was a member of the American Legion. Edwin is survived by his wife, Elinor of Bancroft, sons Mark of Beemer, Steven (Lisa) of St. Edward, NE, John (Julie) of Beemer, a daughter Jane (Tom) Tucker of Moville, IA. His sisters Elna Bargman of Mesa, AZ, Irma Heinemann of Cerritos, CA, Lorna Griffith of Charlotte, NC and Anna (Woody) Bechtel of El Paso, TX, his mother-in-law Ruth Keefer of Papillion, NE. Edwin has 8 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law Dale Bargman and Elmer Heinemann, an infant son Douglas Paul and his father-in-law Services will be 10:30 Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Hedtke officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Bancroft, with military honors graveside. Visitation will be 9:00am. till 8:30 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends Friday 5:00 pm. till 7:00pm.
