Edward Casper Sellentin, 71, of Bancroft, died Friday September 15, 2006 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Services will be 10:30 am. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point with Reverend Donald Olson officiating. Cremation will follow the services with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Monday with family receiving friends 6:00 pm. until 8:00 pm. at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to West Point Volunteer Fire Department or Rescue, or American Heart Association. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Ed was born December 5, 1934 at West Point to Casper and Caroline Sass Sellentin. He grew up and attended schools in West Point. On December 21, 1956 he married Carol Tietz in Council Bluffs. Ed and his father, Casper, and brother Ray founded Cap Sellentin and Sons. It later became Sellentin Ready Mix in 1969. Ed retired in 1979. The couple moved to an acreage south west of Bancroft. In his retirement, Ed enjoyed renovating old buses and Recreational Vehicles. He earned the nick name “Pace Car” for his love of NASCAR and for the time he spent racing stock cars on tracks in Nebraska and Iowa. Ed was known as a handyman who was always willing to lend a hand in what ever project that was needed. He enjoyed Bird watching and filling the grove with bird houses. Ed was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, served on the volunteer fire department for many years, was a charter member of the West Point Eagles, and a former member of the Isaac Walton League. Survivors include his wife, Carol, of Bancroft, daughter Becky (Jody Lerch) Schlautman of Howells, sons Russell (Rhonda) Sellentin of North Bend and Jeffery (Shannon Akin) Sellentin of Seattle, WA, sisters Carol (Don) Johnson of West Point, and Evelyn (Leroy) Fredericksen of Fremont, brother Raymond (Janet) Sellentin of West Point, grandchildren Kirsten (David) Berg, Brianna Schlautman, Sgt. Justin (Sgt. Nicole) Schlautman, Amber, Tiffany and Brett Sellentin and Sophia and Ella Sellentin, great grandchildren Mackenzie, Joe, and Riley Berg, and Kameryn and Joshua Schlautman. He is preceded in death by his father in 1969 and his mother in 1972.
