Edna Catherine Knievel, 78, of West Point, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the West Point Living Center. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Monday, March 10, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, March 9, from noon to 8:00 pm. with family present after 6:00 pm. Guild and Catholic Daughters rosary will be at 1:30 pm and public rosary at 7:00 pm. Memorials can be made to St Francis Hospice of West Point. Stokely Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Edna was born February 15, 1930 at St. Charles, rural West Point to Frank and Eleanor (Bose) Goeken. She attended elementary school in rural Dodge County, St. Leo’s Catholic School, Snyder, and graduated with the class of 1947 from Snyder High School. After high school, she attended beauty school in Omaha and became a licensed beautician. She worked in Omaha a short time and later worked at Bobbi Hugo’s Beauty Shop in West Point. She continued to maintain her beautician’s license until the 1990’s. On May ll, 1957 she married Edwin Knievel. They were married 50 years. Edna later was employed at the Log Cabin near Oakland and Neligh House Restaurant in West Point, doing various kitchen duties as well as catering weddings. Edna enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, sewing, and quilting in addition to helping raise livestock on their farm. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the Guild and Catholic Daughters. Survivors include son, Dale (Joy) Knievel of West Point; daughters, Susan (Cory) Bockelman of Pierce, Bonnie (Del) Styskal of Wisner and Carol (Mike) Polacek of Fremont; brothers, Harold (Elaine) Goeken of O’Neill and Leo (Anna) Goeken of Stanton; sister, Rosemary (Richard “Dick”) Benne of Fremont; nine grandchildren, Chris, Jackie, Patrick, and Ashley Knievel; Brandon Stange; Dustin, Erica, and Trevor Styskal; and Kaitlyn Polacek. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edwin on May 31, 2007, and brothers, John and Edward Goeken.
