Douglas Delwin Brazda, 73, of West Point, died April 24, 2006 at the West Point Living Center. Services will be 1:00 pm. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Reverend Kevin Cook officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the West Point Auditorium Foundation. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Wednesday at Stokely Funeral Home with family receiving friends 6:00 pm. until 8:00 pm. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Doug was born September 20, 1932 in West Point to Omer and Orva Zeplin Brazda. He attended schools at West Point and Scribner, graduating with the Scribner High School class of 1951. On April 20, 1960, he married Karen Brandert at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Hooper. The couple later divorced. Doug attended Barber College in Omaha, and started his 52 year barbering career in Scribner. He returned to West Point and barbered at the Hotel before opening his own shop, retiring in 2004. Doug was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He loved being involved with community theatre and was particularly proud of his leading role in the production of “The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch”. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, bowler, and pool player. Doug was a talented artist who did pencil drawings. Doug will be remembered for always having a joke to tell or a trick to play. Survivors include his daughter Kati Brazda of New York, New York, sons Scott (Kristy) of Omaha and Richard (Jennifer) of Lincoln, brother David (Gloria) Brazda of Sante Fe, New Mexico, granddaughters Amanda and Elizabeth Brazda of Omaha, and Blakelee, Tessa and Rilee Brazda of Lincoln. He is preceded in death by his parents.
