Dorothy Jane (Sueltz) Toelle, 68, of West Point, died Monday, March 28, 2011, at West Point Living Center. Memorial Services will be 1:00 pm. Friday at Grace Lutheran Church with Reverend Chris Meier officiating. Memorial visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Thursday with family present 4:00 pm. until 6:00 pm. Burial will occur at a later date. A memorial has been established. Stokely Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of arrangements. Dorothy was born May 30, 1942 in Aberdeen, SD, to Alfred A. and Alma E. (Adler) Sueltz, and grew up in rural Groton, SD. She attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Groton High School in 1960. She attended Concordia Teachers College, Seward, NE from 1960-1962, and received her BA in Secondary Education from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD in 1964. Dorothy began her teaching career at West Point Public schools in 1964, then taught at Lyons Public School from 1966-1977. Later Dorothy also worked in direct sales, telemarketing and for Flower and Gift Gallery. On July 29, 1967, Dorothy married Frank R. Toelle, Jr. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point, they later divorced. Dorothy was baptized at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, James, SD in June 1942 and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, West Hansen in 1956. After moving to West Point Dorothy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and then Grace Lutheran Church. Dorothy’s passion was music and was gifted at playing the piano and singing. Dorothy, and her siblings’, favorite pastime was singing around the piano. Dorothy spent her life accompanying at the piano or organ and singing at church, schools, nursing homes and community events. Dorothy also loved spending time with her daughter and grandchildren. She enjoyed bead work, reading, cats, fill-it-in puzzles, the computer and weekly games of Scrabble with her dear friend Roxie Repschlaeger. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Kari(Glenn) Hagedorn, grandchildren Alex, Jason, Lauryn and Brandon; sister Donna (Curt) Misslitz, Aberdeen, SD, brothers David (Shirley) Sueltz, Watertown, SD, and Daniel (Janell) Sueltz, Littleton, CO; many nieces and nephews; special friends Roxie Repschlaeger and Sue Batenhorst. She was preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband, and brother-in-law Stanley Markley.
