Dorothy Greckel, 88, of West Point, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Guild and Christian Mothers Rosary will be 1:30 pm. Friday and Public Wake Services will be 7:00 pm. Friday both at Stokely Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Dorothy was born September 26, 1919 at Walthill to James and Catherine Holoubek Hudec. She grew up there and was a 1937 graduate of Walthill High School. She attended Wayne State College, earned a teaching degree, and went on to teach country school. On August 14, 1940 she married Leonard Greckel in Walthill. Dorothy worked a short time for Diers supply and Carmody’s Bakery, but mostly she was a homemaker and mother. In the early 1970’s, Dorothy and Leonard started an upholstery shop in their home, continuing until retirement. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Guild and Catholic Daughters. Dorothy will be remembered as a wonderful cook and hostess, she enjoyed her garden and she loved winning at Bingo. Survivors include daughters Donna (Layne) Landanger and Beverly(Mark) Batenhorst both of Omaha, son Mel of Hubbard, sister Catherine Stansberry of Emerson, grandchildren Sandy Keck, abby Greckel, Darrin Greckel, Mary Greckel, Mike Greckel, David Greckel, Jayson Landanger, Jeffrey Landanger, Joseph Landanger, Julie Batenhorst and Gina Batenhorst, 13 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Leonard in November of 1983, sons Gary in 1956, Ron in 1985, and Dan in 1996, granddaughter Debra Greckel, sisters Agnes Bouchal, Frances Maslonka, Leona Ruge, Helen Keil, and Vera Hudec, and brother George Hudec.
