Dorothy M. (Mrs. Valen) Batenhorst, 90, of West Point, died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Wednesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Guild Rosary will be 1:30 pm. Tuesday and Wake Services will be 7:00 pm. Tuesday both at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Visitation will be 8:00 am. until 8:30 am. at St. Joseph’s Retirement Community and 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Tuesday at Stokely Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s or Holy Cross Catholic Churches or St. Joseph’s Retirement Community. Dorothy was born December 14, 1918 on the farm near Aloys in Cuming County to Fred and Mary Rebhausen Buerman. She attended St. Aloysius School at Aloys. On April 26, 1939, she married Valentine “Valen” Batenhorst at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at Aloys. The couple farmed northwest of West Point where Dorothy was an active farmwife. Dorothy moved off the farm in 2004 and has been living at St. Joseph’s Retirement Community since August of 2005. Dorothy was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Guild and former member of Holy Cross at Beemer where she was active with the Altar Society. Dorothy enjoyed tie knot quilting, but her passion was spending time with family. Survivors include daughters Janice (Art) Pieper of Lafayette, Indiana, Elaine (Vince) Maly of West Point, and Lois (Allen) Steuter of Johnstown, sons Kenneth F. (Marjorie) and Dennis both of West Point, sisters in law Verna Reiman of West Point, Ethel Ruskamp of Columbus, and Marcella Praest of Dodge, brothers in law Winfred (Beata) batenhorst and Richard (Nyla) Batenhorstboth of Beemer, and Rolland (Elaine) Moeller of Pender, 16 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Valen in April of 2004, infant daughter Marlene, and sister Alta Moeller
