Donald Arthur Slagle, 76, of West Point, died July 22, 2005 at his home. Services will be 2:00 pm. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point with Reverend Carl Kramer officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery with Military Honors graveside. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be noon until 8:00 pm. Sunday with family receiving friends 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Sunday at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Don was born March 14, 1929 at West Point to Art and Mary Moody Slagle and was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. He was raised on a farm south of West Point later moving to the farm north east of town. Don attended district 52 School and served in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. On June 17, 1956 he married Twyla Peterson at Grace Lutheran Church. The couple farmed north east of West Point. Don was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a 44 year member of the American Legion. He enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing, playing cards, Slagle Reunions, John Deere Tractors and croquet. Survivors include his wife, Twyla, of West Point, daughters Tamra Slagle and Debra (Dave) Rhoades both of West Point and Diane (Troy) Gatzemeyer of Sun City, CA, son Tim (Patty) of West Point, sisters June Wuestewald, Dorothy (Louis) Reimers, Donna Rae (Lance) Peterson all of West Point, and Betty Meier of North Bend, brother Roland (LaVonne) of Laurel, mother-in-law Dorothea Peterson of West Point, grandchildren Jenna, Tyler, Tanner, and Thomas Slagle, Josh and Brittany Gatzemeyer, Dawson and Dakota Rhoades. He is preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law.
