Donald A. Pagels, 81, of West Point died Friday, September 18, 2009 at West Point Living Center. Funeral Services will be 10:30 am. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church rural Bancroft with Reverend Jeffrey Warner officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be noon until 8:00 pm. Sunday with family receiving friends 6:00 pm. until 8:00 pm. at Stokely Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Don was born May 5, 1928 on the family farm near Bancroft to Arthur and Elizabeth Harms Pagels. He attended Zion Lutheran School. On May 23, 1948 he married Ruth Wattermann at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church at Orchard. The couple farmed in the Bancroft area retiring into West Point in 1981. Don then worked as greens keeper for 13 years at Indian Trails Country Club at Beemer. Don was a lifelong active member of Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing and was a fast pitch softball pitcher. He loved following his grandchildren’s activities. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of West Point, daughter Carma (Roger) Leonard of Clay Center, Kansas, sons Mark (Gina) of Bancroft, Gene (Carolyn) of Aitkin, Minnesota and Al (Kathy) of West Point, grandchildren Mike Pagels, Matt Pagels, Mandy Deckler, Weston Pagels, Jocie Pagels, David Pagels, Kara Ring, Lisa Anderson, Rustin Leonard, Kim Robinson, Ryan Leonard, Danielle Pagels and Clay Pagels, sisters Gloria (Neal) Luebbe of West Point and Gretchen (Ben) Lambrecht of St. Joseph, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Lester.
