Donald Dean Leffler, 75, of West Point, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Public Wake with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:30 pm. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 4:00 pm. Friday at Stokely Funeral Home and continue at St. Mary’s Catholic Church until wake time. Memorials may be made to West Point Baseball Organizations. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com.Lunch will be served at the Vets Club. Donald was born June 15, 1932 at West Point to Gustav and Marie Wolken Leffler. He grew up in West Point, playing baseball and attending Guardian Angels School. Don played baseball for the US Army, serving from February of 1953 until January of 1955. On September 15, 1956 he married Doreen Rathke at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Don worked various jobs including Wimmers, retiring in the mid 1990’s from Iowa Beef Packing after more than 20 years. Don was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served as an usher, 3rd degree Knights of Columbus, and VFW. He was a huge baseball fan, playing on West Point’s Town Team Night League, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include daughter; Dorolyn (Andy) Baumert of West Des Moines, IA, sons; Dana (Diane) and Dann (Sheri) both of West Point, Dominic of Ft. Collins, CO, Damian (Tiffanie) Queen Creek, AZ, Darry (Deb) of Beaver Lake, and Darren of Lincoln, his former wife, Doreen, of West Point, grandchildren; Brittany, Brady, Taylor and Spencer Leffler, Amanda and Janae Baumert, Elliott and Dallas Leffler, Zack and Ryan Leffler, Jamie (Willie) Johnson, Derek and Dillon Leffler, great grandsons Preston and Creighton Johnson, sister; Linda Vieth of Fremont, brothers, Jim (Priscilla) of Omaha, Marvin (Sandy), Richard (Delores) and Harland (Tammy) all of Fremont, and brother in law Jim Hammond of Fremont. Preceding him in death are his parents, sister Darlene Hammond and infant sister Ann Marie.
