Deloris Tonjes, 98, of West Point died Friday, April 8, 2016 at Premier Estates in West Point. Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 16 at 10:30am at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery with lunch following at the church hall. Visitation will be Friday from 12:00pm to 6:00pm with family receiving friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Stokely Funeral Home. Deloris Lucile Korth was born October 15, 1917 in Wakefield to Henry and Mary Ann (Frey) Korth. She was raised on the family farm in Wayne County, attended District 7 country school, graduated from Wakefield High School in 1935, and attended one year at Wayne State College. On May 9, 1937, Deloris married Raymond Tonjes at St. John’s Lutheran parsonage at Pender. The couple operated the Gambles store in Pierce until Ray was called to service in WWII (1942). Deloris and Richard (son) lived with her parents on the family farm south of Wakefield until they moved to West Point in 1945 to live with Ray’s mother. In 1948, they moved to Winslow where they eventually owned & operated a tavern. In the mid-1960’s, they began Ray’s Water Conditioning in West Point, and moved back to West Point in 1969, and retired in 1978. Deloris also worked for Baumann’s and retired in 1985. Deloris was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Domestic Science Benefit Hour Extension Club, and volunteered at church and West Point Living Center. Survivors include her sons Henry James (Jane) Tonjes of Kearney and Raymond (Rosemary) Tonjes of Austin, TX; daughter Ann Tonjes of Austin, TX; daughter-in-law Jean Tonjes of Newton, KS; sister-in-law Ruth Korth of Wayne; grandchildren Mark (Veronica) Tonjes, Kathy (Pat) Collins, Lisa (Bruce) Moritz, Angela (Jerrad) Karr, Meredith (Nic) Hudson, and Chad Tonjes; and great-grandchildren Chelsea Collins, Chase Collins, Jade Tonjes, Keaton Karr, MaKenna Karr, Kaylee Karr, Colston Karr, Emma Hudson , and Anderson Moritz. Deloris was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray on May 20, 1993; son Richard in 1992; sisters Stella Albers, Nelda Burhoop, and Louise Hansen; and brothers William Korth, Lester Korth, and Wendell Korth.
