Coletta Eikmeier was born on March 26, 1925, to Bernard and Cecelia (Kreikemeier) Hunke in West Point. She grew up on the family farm west of West Point and attended St. Boniface Catholic School through the eighth grade. On May 1, 1946, Coletta married Valerian Eikmeier at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Monterey. The couple farmed southwest of Dodge before moving into Dodge in 1981.
Family and caring for others were at the heart of Coletta’s life. In 1968, following the death of her brother Leo’s wife, Coletta was called upon to help him care for his infant son and nine other children. It reflected the servant’s heart she carried throughout her life. Coletta was always willing to help others and found great joy in being of service to her family, church and community.
Coletta was a devoted member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, where she belonged to the Altar Society and Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed decorating cakes, needlepoint, quilting and embroidery. She made quilts and embroidered tea towels for her grandchildren, leaving them special handmade reminders of her love. Coletta also enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her flowers. Coletta and Valerian enjoyed being members of card clubs, bowling and golfing. She was also a big baseball fan.
Coletta is survived by her sons, Gerald (Tammy) Eikmeier of Dodge, Donald (Karen) Eikmeier of Elkhorn, Bernie (Sandy) Eikmeier of Omaha, and Jim (Eileen) Eikmeier of Henderson; sister, Theresa Knobbe; sisters-in-law, Doreen Uhing, Rosanne Eikmeier, and Anna Mae Eikmeier; 11 grandchildren, Kristin Uhing, Heather (John) Baumert, Craig (Jessica) Eikmeier, Nicole (Jim) Crandall, Barry Eikmeier, Cary (Craig) Reimers, Cory (Erica) Eikmeier, Casey (Ginger) Eikmeier, Jacob Eikmeier, Nathan (Madison) Eikmeier, and Connor (Taylar) Eikmeier.
She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Austin and Mason Uhing, Hannah (Tyler) Ross, Caden (Mackenzie) Reimers, Brenna (Noah) Journey, Jayci and Kinsley Reimers, Eliana, Maclain, Xavier, Elin, Flynn and Brecken Eikmeier, Ella and Harper Eikmeier, Bradyn and Evelyn Eikmeier, Gracie Eikmeier, Elliot Eikmeier, and Kyler and Chet Eikmeier; and great-great-grandchildren, Raylynn, Westyn, and Navy Reimers, Beckham and Huxley Journey, and Otis and Dante Ross.
