Christina Baumert, 92, of West Point, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at West Point Living Center. Memorial Mass will be 10:30 am. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church with Reverend Gerry Gonderinger celebrant. Ladies Rosary 1:30 pm. Tuesday at Stokely Funeral Home Chapel. Wake service 7:00 pm. at Stokely Funeral Home Chapel. Burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation noon to 8:00 pm. Tuesday at Stokely Funeral Home. Christina was born October 28, 1918 on the family farm near Monterey in Cuming County to Herman and Mary (Knievel) Meister. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School, Monterey. On February 27, 1946 Christina married Alfons Baumert at St Boniface Catholic Church. The couple farmed south of Dodge before moving to West Point in 1960. Christina was a homemaker and worked part time at St. Joseph’s Retirement Community in the 1970’s. Christina was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Guild, and Christian Mothers. She enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing and needle work, and gardening. Survivors include her husband Alfons, children Daniel H. (Ilene) Baumert of Fremont, Lois Williams of Suffern, NY, Mary (Bryan) Downey of Fremont, Janet Baumert and Cathy Baumert both of West Point, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, and her sister Leona Pieper of Papillion. She is preceded in death by brothers William, Aloys and Leonard Meister and sisters Irene Timmerman and Pauline Grothe.
