Charles R. Wickert, 82, of Omaha, formerly of West Point, died March 27, 2010 at University Hospital in Omaha. Funeral services will be 4:00 pm. Wednesday at Stokely Funeral Home Chapel in West Point with Reverend Richard Bringewatt officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until service time on Wednesday at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Memorials may be made to Mount Hope Cemetery. Charles was born July 7, 1927 at West Point to Albert G. and Dorothea Langemeier Wickert. He attended country school at District 25, and then farmed with his parents. He entered the US Army on February 12, 1946, serving in Japan. He was honorably discharged on April 7, 1947 and returned to West Point. In 1958, he married Eva Stoltze at Sioux City, Iowa. The couple farmed north east of West Point and later divorced. In 1983 he moved to Omaha and was employed in food services for the New Cassel Retirement Home, retiring in 1999. In 2003 he moved to Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island, returning to Omaha in 2007 where he lived at Douglas County Health Center. He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith. He enjoyed ballroom dancing, and loved to read and travel. Survivors include sons, Robert (Molly) Wickert, Omaha and Brian (Sherri) Wickert of Shingle Springs, CA, daughters, Karen (Steve) Schlautman of Columbus and Janice (Jon) Lack of Aurora, IL, 10 grandchildren, brother Ralph Wickert of Corpus Christi, TX, and sister Anita (Tom) Johnson of Gig Harbor, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Verna Landholm and Arlene Uhrey and brother Lester Wickert.
