Catherine Dorothy Luebbert, 89, of West Point died July 4, 2006 at the West Point Living Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Gerald Gonderinger as celebrant. Guild and Christian Mothers Rosary will be 1:30 pm. Thursday and Public Wake Services will be 7:00 pm. Thursday both at Stokely Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Visitation will be noon until 8:00 pm. Thursday. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Reirement Community, Guardian Angels or Central Catholic Endowments. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Catherine was born April 14, 1917 at Albion, in Boone County, to Anton and Nellie Rozendal Scharfen. She attended country school District #13 and was a 1935 graduate of Albion High School. Teaching was her chosen profession. She taught at District #23 in Boone County before moving to Cuming County with her parents in 1938, teaching for 3 years at District #68. On June 3, 1941 she married Victor Luebbert at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Catherine taught school off and on and attended Wayne College to update her teaching certificate. She also farmed with her husband until they retired in 1983 and moved into West Point. In October of 2004 she moved to St. Joseph’s Retirement Community and then most recently to the Living Center. Catherine was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and served as president of the Guild. She enjoyed being active with the Sunshine Senior Center. Catherine liked gardening, especially flowers, and sewing. She also baked and decorated cakes. Survivors include daughters Rosemary (Ron) Lemke of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Betty (Gene) Harnapp of Spalding and Kathy (Dale) Schlecht of West Point, sons Ray (Peg) of Omaha and Bill (Judy) of West Point, sister in laws Rosella Meier of West Point and Elinor Scharfen of Lincoln, 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Victor, in February of 1987, son Kenneth in November of 1962 and a brother Bud Scharfen.
