Carolyn Peters, 80, of West Point died January 3, 2015 at her home. Funeral 10:30 am. Thursday, January 8 at St. John’s Lutheran Church County Line with Reverend Janice Heidlberger officiating. Visitation 9:00am – 8:00pm Wednesday, with family present from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Stokely Funeral Home. Burial at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Hospice or Sunshine Center. Carolyn Ann Havekost was born November 15, 1934 in Rosalie, Nebraska to George and Ruth (Marxen) Havekost. She attended rural school in Cuming County, graduated from Scribner High School in 1952, then completed one year at Midland College in Fremont. On October 3, 1954, Carolyn married Verne Peters at St. John’s Lutheran Church County Line. The couple farmed west of Scribner on the Peters’ farm and then in 1967 they moved north of Scribner to the Havekost family farm. Carolyn moved to West Point in 1988 where she later retired as Deputy Clerk of County Court, with miniature schnauzer Willa, her faithful companion, by her side. Carolyn was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bible Study Fellowship in Fremont and she served as treasurer of Women of E. L. C. A. She was a volunteer for Hospice and the Living Center and she served on the Sunshine Center Board. She enjoyed trap shooting and raising quarter horses. In 1952 Carolyn won the 16 yd. High Lady 85 x 100 trophy at the Hilltop Traps Nebraska-Iowa Shoot. Survivors include sons Noel (Gina) of Herman, Stephen (Lori) of West Point; sisters Georgien (Lester) Lamm of Grand Island, Kathleen (Robert) Palmeiro of Foster, Rhode Island; sisters-in-law Joyce Frischie of Scribner and Janet Heiman of Lees Summit, Missouri; grandchildren Katie (Gary) Settje, Paul (Laura) Peters, Rebecca (Joel) Brabec, Maria Peters, Jeffrey Peters, Jenna (Patrick) Knievel, Jordan Peters; and great grandchildren Samuel, Sage and Jacob Peters and Maddox George Brabec.
