Betty Jean Tarbutton, 77, of West Point died January 17, 2005 at Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer. Betty was born June 9, 1927 at Arco, MN to William Edward and Lillian Ida Malzahn Stoltzman. As a child she moved to West Point where she was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. Betty attended West Point Public Schools, graduating in 1945. On May 8, 1949, she married Edwin Wayne Tarbutton at Grace Lutheran Church. Betty worked at the West Point Republican Newspaper and later for 20 years at the West Point Public Library retiring in 1998. Betty loved her time working at the Library and had a continuing passion for books and reading. She spent the last five years of her life residing at St. Joseph’s Retirement Community. Betty was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Survivors include daughters Vicki Lin (Greg) Keep of Cotesfield, and TeriLea (Michael) Hunzeker of Hay Springs, grandchildren Ben, Amanda, and Elizabeth Keep, Christopher and Daniel Hunzeker, an Aunt Elizabeth Einemann, sister-in-law May Dee Stoltzman, special friend Julius Reimers, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, in Nov. of 1995, sister Marjorie Schulz and brother Marvin Stoltzman. Memorial Services will be 10:00 am. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Retirement Community Chapel with Reverend Carl Kramer officiating. Burial will occur at a later date at the Lyon’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to John Stahl Library.
