Betty L. Smidt, 79, of West Point died Friday June 5, 2009 at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha. Services will be 10:30 am. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point with Reverend Christian Meier officiating. Burial will be at the Beemer Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 to 8:00 pm. Tuesday with family receiving friends 6:00 pm. until 8:00 pm. at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Memorial Hospital. Betty was born March 2, 1930 at Dodge to John and Luella Wiemann Legband. She attended schools thru the 8th grade at Dodge and attended High School in Pender. Betty worked at Curran Drug Store Mayberry Caf in Pender. On April 17, 1949, Betty married Melvin E. Young at Fremont Lutheran Parrish in Fremont. The couple lived in Pender from 1949 until 1960 moving to a farm near Beemer. Betty then owned and operated West End Cafe at Wisner. In 1960 they moved into Beemer where Betty worked at the Pastime Bar for 30 years. On October 13, 1990, Betty married De Verne Smidt and moved to West Point. Betty was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Beemer American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed camping, canning, and bowling. Betty spent hours crocheting, doing cross stitch and embroidery. Survivors include daughters Vicky (Kenny) Krupka) of Beemer and Debra (Richard) Feyerherm of West Point, son, Scott (Paula) Young of Beemer, sister Patricia (Clint) Carney of Omaha, step daughters Jacque (Monte) Nybo of Concrete Washington, Sharon (Valen) Neesen and Karen (Danny) Breitkreutz both of West Point, step son David (Machelle Jacob) of West Point, grandchildren Troy(Ann) Streeter, Travis (Sherri) Streeter, Dustin and Derek Feyerherm, Angela (John) Thillander, Brittney Krupka, Kelli Jamie Fleetwood, Jaclyn, Grant, Reilly, Madison, and Hannah Young, step grandchildren, Christopher (Brooke) neesen, Philip, Ashley, and Jesse Neesen, Lacy (John Rowell) Smidt, Cole Smidt Anthony (Amy) Schenk, Jordan and Amy Breitkruetz.13 great grand children and 4 step great grandchildren. She is preceded in death byhusbands Melvin Young in 1969 and DeVerne Smidt in2007, brothers Morman and Dale Legband and a step son Dean Smidt.
