Audrey Schulze, 95, of Dodge, died Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Parkview Home in Dodge. Funeral Mass will be 10:00am on Saturday, October 29 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Reverend An Duy Phan as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery with lunch following at the church hall. Visitation will be Friday from 2:30pm to 7:00pm with a Christian Mothers rosary and American Legion Auxiliary Rites at 3:00pm and a Wake Service at 7:00pm all at church. Memorials may be made to St. Wenceslaus Church. Stokely Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Audrey Vivian Hanzel was born January 18, 1921 in Dante, SD to Edward and Agnes (Turek) Hanzel. When she was ten years old, the family moved to the Hanzel family farm north of Dodge. She graduated from Dodge High School in 1938 and taught in rural grade schools by Dodge and Lyons for four years. On May 19, 1942, Audrey married Raymond L. Schulze at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge. The couple moved to California where she worked as’Rosie the Riveter’ while her husband trained to become a pilot. Following WWII, the couple moved back to Dodge where they farmed for 11 years before moving into town in 1957. Over the years, Audrey enjoyed part-time employment at various businesses in Dodge- Schulte’s Tavern/Café, Dodge swimming pool, and Parkview Home. She was proud to be an active member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and its Altar Society, Guild, and Christian Mothers. Failing health led Audrey to move to Parkview Home in December of 2005. After a lingering illness, she passed away peacefully, having reached the age of 95 years 9 months and 8 days. She will be remembered for her bright smile and caring ways, as well as her love of playing cards. Audrey is survived by sons, Richard (Margaret) Schulze of Chicago, IL and Thomas (Julie) Schulze of Clarkson. Her life was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn are her brother, Richard (Judith) Hanzel of Fremont and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Raymond in 2006; daughter and son-in-law, LaDonna and Clarence Ortmeier; great-granddaughter Madeline Ortmeier; sisters, Margaret (Eldon) Janecek and Frances (Nick) Wackel; and brothers, John (Betty) Hanzel, Frank (Mary Ann) Hanzel and Edward (Rose) Hanzel.
