Anton Bernard Steffensmeier, 95, formerly of Dodge, died Monday, April 21, 2008 at Arbor Manor in Fremont. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am. Thursday, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge with Reverend Patrick McLaughlin as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Public Wake service will be 7:00 pm. Wednesday at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Visitation will be 9:00 am. until 8:00 pm. Wednesday at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Retirement Community in West Point or the School Sisters of St. Francis in Omaha. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Anton was born April 15, 1913 at Monterey to John and Mary Birchem Steffensmeier. Following his mother’s death, he was raised by his step mother Augusta Ermels Steffensmeier. Anton attended St. Boniface Catholic School thru the 8th grade. He worked his father’s farm west of West Point until purchasing his own farm south of Snyder in 1943. On September 25, 1945 he married Marie Knuever at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Monterey. The couple continued to farm south of Snyder, retiring to Dodge in 1981. They moved to St. Joseph’s Retirement Community in West Point in April, 2005. Anton moved to Arbor Manor in Fremont in December of 2007. Anton was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge and Knights of Columbus in West Point. He enjoyed traveling in his retirement. Survivors include daughters; Sister Betty Steffensmeier, School Sisters of St. Francis, of Omaha, Marlene (Ronald) Pietz of Sioux City, IA, and Mary (Kevin) Hart of FT. Atkinson, WI, son Richard (Shadda) Steffensmeier of Scribner, sisters Mary Goeken, formerly of West Point, and Margaret Franzluebbers of West Point, 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marie, march 14, 2007, sons Michael in January 2002, and Leonard in August 2006, brothers Herman and Edward Steffensmeier, sister Johanna Kampschneider and several infant siblings.
