Allan D. “Al” Chudomelka, Sr., 70, of Dodge died Friday, November 7, 2008 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:0 am. Tuesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge with Reverend Patrick McLaughlin as celebrant. Wake services will be held 7:00 pm. Monday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 pm. until 8:00 pm. Monday at the Church. Memorials may be made to John Rogers Library. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Al was born January 15, 1938 in Cuming County north of Dodge to Louis and Josie Vodvarka Chudomelka. He attended country school, was a 1956 Dodge High School graduate and attended Wayne State College. He worked with his father on the farm south of Dodge. On August 11, 1964, Al married Marcella Palensky at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bruno. The couple farmed east of Dodge for 5 years before he built their home in Dodge. Al worked for Wimmer’s in Dodge, Excel in Schuyler, and IBP in West Point before retiring from Tyson in 2004. Following his retirement, Al enjoyed driving the school bus, on the daily route as well as to sporting events. Al was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, a convert since 1963. He was gun safety instructor for 15 years. He loved hunting, especially deer, was an expert carpenter, plumber and electrician. Al enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with others. His fruit trees and grapes were his pride. Al was president of the Dodge Tree Board and was a member of N. R. A. He was an avid reader and looked forward to playing poker with his buddies nearly every morning. He will be remembered also for his baking, apple bars and pies, for his family and baking chocolate chip cookies which he was famous for at school. Survivors include his wife, Marcella, of Dodge, children Allan, Jr. of Dodge, Daniel (Nicole) of Ashland, Mike (Lisa) of Omaha and Michele (John) Kucera of Gibbon, brother Don (Edith) of Osceola, grandchildren; Leslie and Bryce Chudomelka, Anna and Ty Chudomelka, Samuel, Jacob and Emma Kucera. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister in law Jo Ann Chudomelka.
