Aelred “Al” Hugo, 90, of West Point, died December 6, 2007 at West Point Living Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Reverend Frank Lordemann as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Public wake services with Knights of Columbus Rosary will be 7:00 pm. Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be 11:00 am. until 4:00 pm. Sunday at Stokely Funeral Home and continue at the church. A memorial has been established. Those wishing to leave on line condolences may do so at www.stokelyfuneralhome.com. Aelred Matthias Hugo was born October 5, 1917 at West Point to J. George and Margaret Hilz Hugo. He grew up in West Point and was a 1936 graduate of Guardian Angels Catholic School. During WWII, Al worked in Blair, welding on PT boats. On October 11, 1947, he married Roslyn Larson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. The couple lived in West Point. Al was a 3rd generation plumber in the family business, Hugo Plumbing and Heating. He retired in the early 1990’s. Al was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He served on the West Point City Council and was instrumental in getting ambulance service to the community as well as the development of Wilderness Park. Al was an original member of Cuming Choraleers, the Community Theatre Group and Chamber of Commerce. He served as president of the Nebraska State Plumber’s Association and was an original incorporator of Grain States Soya. He also served on the West Point Fire Department and belonged to the Isaac Walton League as well as Kiwanis. Al was a multi-faceted man who had lots of interests including geology, reading, and music, but his passion was humanity. Survivors include his beloved wife, Rosie, of West Point, daughters: Rita (Ray) Armendariz of Omaha, Karen (David) Bursley of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Rosemary (John) Roche of Denver, Colorado, sons; Philip (Karen) of Lima, Ohio, Gerald “Jerry” (Cindy) and Kenneth both of West Point, and J. George (Dawn) of Ellensburg, Washington, brothers Matthias of Norfolk and Ambrose (Nora) of West Point, sisters; Jeanette (Henry) Polzer and Julie Wordekemper both of West Point, grandchildren; Dyani and Chilali Hugo, Alexis (Chris) Funk, Nicholas, Todd and Travis Hugo, Brandon Hugo, Briauna and Aelea Armendariz and Hannah Hugo. He is preceded in death by a brother Paul and sister Florence Schnur.
