Bertha Steuter, 93, of West Point, died Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point. Memorial Mass will be 10:30am on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Fr. Steve Emanuel as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with lunch following at the GACC Cafeteria. Visitation will be Friday, March 29 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm with a guild rosary at 1:30pm at Stokely Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a vigil service at 7:00pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to GACC Endowments or St. Boniface Cemetery and sent to 343 N. Monitor St., West Point, NE 68788. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home. Bertha Bernadine Steuter was born on March 21, 1925 to Anton and Sophie (Kaup) Kreikemeier on the family farm near Monterey. She attended St. Boniface Catholic School through the 8th grade. On May 20, 1948, Bertha married Paul Steuter at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Monterey. After her children were in school, Bertha worked at Graybeal’s Foods in the bakery. Bertha was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Guild, Christian Mothers, and Catholic Daughters. Her life centered around her faith and large family. She will be remembered for her homemade bread and for beautiful sewing. In later years she enjoyed cross-stitching, quilting and playing’kings in the corner’. Survivors include children, Sophie (Don) Boden of Delray Beach, FL, Al (Lois) Steuter of Johnstown, Stan (Julie) Steuter of Elk River, MN, Kathy (Kim) Wagner of West Point, David Steuter of Phoenix, AZ, Susan (Craig) Harms of Manhattan, KS, Judy (Doug) Lane of Omaha, Paul Steuter of West Point, Lori Cardella of Plantation, FL, Lisa (Paul) Stokman of Crosby, MN, and Jenny (Kevin) Oligmueller of Alliance; 44 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Patsy Kreikemeier of West Point. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband Paul Sr.; parents; son, Steve Steuter; brothers, Otto, Alois, and Anton; sisters Clara Hagedorn, Teresa Parr, Marie Emanuel, Ann Van Ackeren, Catherine Kreikemeier and Rosie Kreikemeier; and infant grandson, Charlie Stokman.
